Five cafés in Aewol, compared by whether you can see the sunset from your seat and how long you can sit after it. How to choose between Noeulli, Aewol The Sunset, Lazy Pump, Ikkisup Sogil and Jejudang, situation by situation.

At a glance
- On 30 September the sun sets on Jeju at 18:20, and on 20 October at 18:01. Apart from Ikkisup Sogil, which closes at 17:30, four of the five are open at that hour.
- What differs is the time after sunset. Noeulli and Jejudang close at 21:00, Lazy Pump at 20:00 and Aewol The Sunset at 19:00. Choose by whether you will move on after the sunset or stay once it is dark.
- Ikkisup Sogil has no sea. It is a daytime café where you walk a 20,000-pyeong (about 6.6 ha) moss garden instead. The sunset has to come from one of the others.
- All five have free parking. Dogs are allowed only at Aewol The Sunset and Lazy Pump, and at Ikkisup Sogil the ₩4,000 entry fee is waived if each person orders a drink.
Watching the sunset and sitting at ease after it has gone are two different things. On 30 September the sun sets on Jeju at 18:20. On 20 October it is 18:01.
Four of the five are open at that hour. Only Ikkisup Sogil, which closes at 17:30, is a daytime café. What differs is what comes next. Some close at 19:00, others stay open until 21:00.
Two things were checked this time. Can you watch the sunset from your seat, and how long can you stay once the sun is down. The café above the Handam path and the 800-pyeong bakery on the Bongseong-ri hill answer the first question the same way and part on the second.

For two people who will not want to leave after the sun goes down, it is Noeulli. It stands three storeys high on the coast road that Olle Route 16 runs along. The first floor is a garden with bread set among tall tropical plants. The second floor has bean bags facing the sea, and the third is called the sky garden.
Reviews mention windows on every side and wide gaps between tables. Some add that it feels like a resort in Southeast Asia. In return, the seats with the view are contested. The 3.0 reviews all talk about the price.
It closes at 21:00, so more than two hours are left after sunset. If you plan to stay once it is dark, this is the first pick.

An old fish-farm pump house became a café. It is a three-storey building with the concrete texture left as it was. An annexe and a semi-basement adjoin it, and the Aewol sea is visible from every floor.
The third-floor window is shaped like a picture frame, so most review photos are taken there. The coffee leans acidic, and reviews add that the cups are pretty. The car park holds 60, but the road in is narrow and one way. The 3.0 reviews talk about that road. Some write that queues form in peak season and on public holidays.
It closes at 20:00, so the time after sunset is an hour shorter than at Noeulli. If photographs come first, it is this one.
- Hours
- daily 09:00–20:00 (last order 19:40)
- Watch out
- the approach is narrow and one way, so nervous drivers tense up. Some write that they waited for a seat on peak-season afternoons.

Choosing in more detail
- If it rains — Jejudang. With 800 pyeong indoors over a basement and two floors, there is room to sit even when the sea is grey.
- If you have a dog — Aewol The Sunset or Lazy Pump. Both are listed as dog friendly, and Ikkisup Sogil does not allow them.
- If you have a pushchair — Ikkisup Sogil. The way from the car park to the garden is flat and there are highchairs.
- If you are coming straight from the airport — Lazy Pump. A review says it is 30 minutes from the airport and lists it as a first-day or last-day stop.
- If you are walking the Olle trail — Noeulli. It is on Route 16, so you can drop your pack and sit in a bean bag.
- If you want to spend less on a coffee — Jejudang. The lowest americano price read across these five.
For the sunset alone, any of the four apart from Ikkisup Sogil will do. The longer you want to stay afterwards, the more it narrows to the two that open until 21:00. Put that day's sunset time next to the last order before you set off and you will not make a wasted trip.
Ask before you go
- 1Do the five Aewol cafés charge for parking?
All five are listed as free parking. Lazy Pump has a private car park with a barrier gate, and Jejudang and Ikkisup Sogil both have wide car parks. Aewol The Sunset and Noeulli are free as well.
- 2Does any of them charge a separate entry fee?
Only Ikkisup Sogil. It is waived if each person orders a drink, and you pay it if you only walk the garden and leave. The other four have no entry fee.
- 3Where do I check the sunset time in Aewol?
The Badatime Jeju sunrise and sunset table lists it by date. The sky stays red for a while after the sun goes down, so it is enough to keep the last order ahead of sunset.
- 4Which places serve food?
Aewol The Sunset has toast, pizza and stew. Noeulli sells cream pasta and pizza. The Jejudang restaurant closes its orders two hours before the café.
- 5Which cafés work with a child?
Ikkisup Sogil has highchairs, and Visit Jeju lists pushchair access at Jejudang. Lazy Pump also states that children are welcome. For Noeulli and Aewol The Sunset, ask about children by phone.
- 6Which have seating for four or more together?
Group seating is stated at Lazy Pump and Jejudang. Ikkisup Sogil has an outdoor terrace. For group seats elsewhere, ask by phone.
