Gangneung pensions in Jumunjin, Yeongok and Sacheon, picked by group size and what the room gives you

For two people, this place on Jumunjin's Haean-ro looks right. Every room is a single queen bed for two.

Open the door and the sea fills the picture window. Several reviews talk about seeing the sea the moment they woke up, and the next one along is about soaking in the tub while watching out of the window.

Each room has an induction hob and tableware, so breakfast happens in the room. Only rooms 305 and 405 have no kitchen. Those two get a camping-style barbecue on a mini terrace instead.

Come down off the mountain wanting hot water, and it is Rose Pension in Yeongok. It sits on the Yeongok hillside rather than by the sea.

The first-floor deck rooms have a private open-air bath; the second-floor rooms have a whirlpool. The bath costs ₩30,000 to prepare, and you have to say so during the morning of the day itself for the water to be run. Easiest to mention it when you book.

The indoor pool is open until 31 October. Two rooms take 4–8 people, so it works for a family with two children. Dogs are taken up to two under 8kg, ₩15,000 a night.

A place on Jumunjin's Haean-ro where the ₩50,000s buy you a sea view overnight. Of the five houses, the cheapest rooms are here: Pacific 5 and Magellan Gold. ₩51,000 was the lowest rate seen on the research date, so it moves with the date.

Rooms split into bed rooms and spa rooms. Only Platinum and Iron have a whirlpool. One review says you can see Jumunjin lighthouse out of the window.

The building is a little old. One five-star review calls it an old inn with a good view rather than a pension, and even that one finishes by saying the owner is kind. There is a rooftop viewing deck open from 15:00 to 21:00.

If baby gear always fills the boot, it is Peria 902, in front of Sacheon Beach. The room already holds baby tableware, a steriliser, baby shampoo, lotion, body wash, a step stool and toys.

There is a lift. One review is specifically about getting the bags and the baby upstairs easily, and this was the only one of the five whose listing mentions a lift.

Rooms split into kids' rooms with a kitchen and kids' rooms with a spa, and the spa kids' room, Cocoa 501, takes up to eight people. The ground floor has a cafe and a Chinese restaurant, and Sacheon Beach is right in front.

A family of more than six means Pension Gung, in front of the sea at Sacheonjin. Philia and Storge are listed for six as standard, ten at most.

The building is a wooden hanok, so the floorboards creak a little. One four-star review woke past one in the morning to noise from upstairs, and next to it sits a review saying a hanok this clean had not one insect.

The big rooms have two bathrooms. Barbecue is ₩30,000 for four with charcoal and a grill, ₩5,000 per extra person. One review mentions being given fireworks in the evening, though there is no telling whether that always happens.
